Open House for TSS

Good morning everyone!
What a beautiful day to wake up too, knowing that I don't have to officially report to school everyday from Monday onwards....lol! It has been a hectic 2 days...preparing the booths for the school's Open house on Friday. Yesterday's Open House started from 8.30 am. The trickle of visitors - the  anxious parents & the newly-minted PSLE graduands came shopping for their secondary schools. Some came with younger & older siblings in tow.

We talked to all and sundry who wanted to know what TSS has to offer their child - be it in academic excellence or CCA prowess or even in terms of the care given to their precious child :) It was a big help to have some students to help out at the booths - not least because they are a product of Tanglin and what they say about the school means more to the young would-be Tanglinian. Parents talked to the teachers more as they want to know about our school's results, results, results! We even had one super-anxious parent who asked for our Sec 1 exam papers for the child to practise in preparation for secondary school life. OMG!!

I saw the video clip done by students who had completed the Financial Literacy course. All I can say is that Yone Phar makes a lousy loanshark & Raphael looks good on camera :p The next time the EL department needs actors, we know who to call..hahaha :)

I know you peeps have had close to 3 weeks hols since the end of term, and some are starting to show signs of boredom - not meeting friends in school or going out on random outings for the sheer fun of having the holidays!! Some lucky ones are already going to or may even have returned from family holidays abroad:)

The teachers need a break too - to recharge ourselves; we are not machines you know... I need a rest from school... lol! A staycation would be good ~ with some shopping thrown in cos the year-end bonus and Christmas is coming...yay!!

So everyone, stay chirpy and happy cos December is just a couple of days away. Be merry, be generous and stay positive. Enjoy the holidays while they are here :D

Here comes the year-end holidays!!

Hello every Tanglininan
The year-end holidays are here.....woots :) Yesterday went by too quickly right from the morning assembly. We started off with the House Champion -- hip, hip , hooray to CYPRESS House! Then, there were citations from the Form-Teachers for the Students of the Semester Awards from each level.

The Discipline Master's announcement that there will be TSS school socks with effect from January next year, was greeted with a collective moan.....lol:)

After that back to the classes for some spring cleaning, again! While the students were kept busy tidying up their teachers' homerooms for the last time for this year, WE as teachers, were also busy, finalising the tokens and little gifts we have bought for the 10 individual class awards.

I'm sure your respective Form-Teachers from 3E1- 3E4 & 3N1-3N2, were doing likewise. I had fun selecting, buying and tagging the cute notebooks I've got for my form class 2N1. We made certificates for them too -- from those who got the 3 top class positions to the Bilingual & Most-Improved Awardees. The 5 school values PHIRR - and you better know what these acronym stands for - were not left out!

Then it was time to wait for the class party to start - the Californian pizzas took a bit longer to arrive but we already had the black, forest bdae cake, the curry puffs & mummy's special from our friendly stall no. 8 to feed hungry mouths!! We had fun:)

In the midst of all these mini celebrations, I met and talked to some parents on their respective child's academic performance & what to look out for in 2012. Whew, the class party ended at noon but I stayed on, with a few students for company, until the last parent came at 4.30 pm. Until then, I was literally on my toes throughout the day.  Am I glad to call it a day -- the official last day of school this year !!

But for u peeps, the Sec 3 classes have one more week of extended lessons -- so that you are prepared for a more crucial year ahead.

Hey peeps, let's start the countdown and enjoy your super long year-end holidays -- 8 weeks no less!

Happy Deepavali

Happy Holiday Peeps!
Good morning everyone:) Am up and early on a non-school day today. Relishes the thought that school is going to end, for u peeps at least, officially in 3 days' time...Woots!

We have done the promotion exercise last Friday. And u peeps will get ur report books come this Friday. While most of u got promoted, I hear 1 or 2 got left behind. Well, that is life. Everyone has to work hard to earn a place at the next level. If u had slacked or thought life is too short for u to continue working at ur books...this is the hard knocks of reality. Take a leaf out of this and renew ur resolution for next year...which is just round the corner. Before the end of 2012, u would have to clear the 'O' or 'N' levels and not have to stay back. If that happens, my advice would be, learn from ur past mistakes and move on. For those who are moving up, congrats! Remember to renew ur pledge to work just as hard cos it will soon be time for u to make ur choices for post-secondary education -- be it to the Junior Colleges or Polytechnics or even ITE.

There will be the ups and downs in the Wheels of Life. It is how u face the challenges and make lemonade out of lemons. Get it?

Enjoy the mid-week holiday and be back in school for another 2 days at least. Come Friday after the teachers have met some of ur parents for the Meet-the-Parents session, you can have a class party, tease ur frens and teachers...let ur hair down a bit & have fun:)

Hurray!! I've finally got re-connected to the blog again:)

Hellooo peeps of X-1E4

Hahaha......now that I can add new posts, I shall not resist the urge to write more comments:) For the last 3 months, in between work, work and more work.....I wanted  to share some of my thots but trying to get into the blog post was a real challenge. But today, something magical happened, I tried and tried AND succeeded in getting into the dashboard -- just like that!

So here's another update since the last June holidays...how time really flies! Actually, the most recent one was half an hour ago.....

The school just had an external validation from MOE. The team comprising senior assessors from HQ came to ask many questions from the school leaders, HODs, teachers and student leaders who are selected not randomly....but based on their ability to talk confidently about how their life in Tanglin has changed and the platforms given for them to develop themselves holistically.

The last time an EV (external validators) came to TSS was in 2005 and we hope this time round, we  will get a more positive report since we have made many more changes to enrich the students' life and make every Tanglinian proud of the school!

We were also given MOE's Sustained Achievement Awards (SSA) for the Uniform Groups &  National Education for 2011-2013.  So here's to more good news.....

OMG......the blog is alive again!!!

Helloooo peeps and friends
Aren't you glad to be able to read this again? I can't believe I've accidentally deleted what I've written in the last 10 minutes!!

I had tried to post comments since my last post in June but somehow the system keeps rejecting my id!! It was so frustrating! The only thing I could do was to comment in the chat-box. Then today.....just a few minutes ago, after several tries (sigh...!) I gained entry into the blog post again...yaaay!!

Today we had the Sec 4N graduation ceremony. I was not able to be present for the whole event but popped in between my invigilation duty for the sec 2 EL Paper 1 exam. By the time, I was free to go back to the hall again, the ceremony was over. The students were mingling, eating and chatting with each other, in between taking shots with their I-phone cams:)

It's a mixture of sweet and sad moments as some of them may choose not to come back to the school next year. Another new chapter of their school life will begin in new surroundings.

For you peeps, your turn will come next year when you reach Sec 4E or 4N. For now, focus all your energies to doing well in the end-of-year exam as I'm sure you all want to be promoted next year:)

Good luck for the exams & God Bless!!

Ur ever loving

June hols are here at last!

Hello peeps
The June hols are here but I must say, it's not really, really a holiday in the true sense of the word. First of all there is FOCUS programme for all the graduating classes for 2 whole weeks! Ur turn will come next year....

Then it will be the a camp for all the Performing Arts groups next week, which involves all 5 Aesthetics groups, with students and teachers....it'll be a BIG group. That will take up 3 days of the 2nd week hols. Back to back with that will be the Innovation & Enterprise Camp (I&E) for all Sec 2 classes. Staying in school for 6 days?! OMG!

Before the end of the last week of the hols, teachers have to be back in school again for admin meetings & work-related stuff....Alas whoever says that a teacher's life is wonderful with super long holidays must be living in the past.

BUT for you peeps out there, if you are not involved in all these things, then your hols are truly enjoyable, although some might find it boring cos you don't get to meet your friends in school...to chillax:)

Come, come, have fun; bond with ur parents & siblings, meet friends for a movie or for meals @ fastfood eateries......and dun forget to do all the assignments which the  teachers'  had given before the hols come to an end. Hahaha.....hohoho......hehehe....

Happy holidays from ur cheerful

May Day! May Day! May Day!

Happy May Day aka Labour Day to everyone out there!!

Hello peeps
How are you on this beautiful Sunday morning? Why so cheesy you might ask? It's because May 1 on a Sunday means no blue Monday tomorrow:)

Actually so many people are still out there working although Labour Day is a special day to commemorate the efforts of all working people and is thus declared a public holiday. Especially, all those involved in the General Elections; they are all out working in full force to publicise their manifestos and their plans come post-voting day.......

You and I are also working hard.....you are swotting for all the other papers coming up by next Friday. And I have hundreds and hundreds of essay scripts to mark from now until next Friday! Including some from the sec 3 Express classes, for standardisation marking, hehehe! Mind you, the other sets of paper 2 will be making their appearance soon enough, after Voting Day....

Today also means that my son will be leaving Paris for London. He has been away for the last 8 days, on a short holiday to meet his sister in Paris. Both will be going to London to meet their cousin. He has got for me all the nice things which I've asked him to get for me in Paris....including Chanel!! Dun be jealous okay....lol:)

Oh btw, keep urselves in good health, eat well, have plenty of rest and remember the 3 good strategies to keep exam stress at bay ~ organise ur study notes, keep ur study table free of clutter & keep to ur revision time table!

Okies everyone, continue working hard and look forward to the end of May, another 30 days to go and then YOU will get to enjoy the mid-term holidays:)

Cheers from ur ever-thoughtful teacher
